Chicken Troubles

It’s been a while since I’ve taken the time to write a blog post even though it has been a less busy summer for us than usual. Our infrastructure here on the farm has developed immensely in the last few years and we have come so far with our rotational grazing plan and our pig and goat housing. Now it is time to spend some serious time with our birds. In the last month or so we have lost nearly every egg that had been laid to hens that have gotten the taste for them. We separated the flock into two and installed new tires and a roll away nest box on our chicken tractor and got that back out in the field. For that flock our egg losses have dropped 100% during our two week trial period. Now we are laying out the plans for chicken tractor number two and strategizing for winter housing. With any luck we will be back to full supply in the next couple of week. Never underestimate the negative effects of poor planning!
